Special instructions for Tummy Tuck Care

A cosmetic surgeon / plastic surgeon is likely to give you a list of special care instructions after cosmetic surgery. You should follow these instructions with great care, as they are intended both to assure your safety and insure you enjoy the most optimal final results possible! Some special instructions you should anticipate include but are not limited to the following:

You may be asked to walk, and wear compression socks to decrease the risk of blood clots. Do not return to work without your physician’s approval; avoid heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity for a minimum of 6-8 weeks.
Sponge bathing can be accomplished, with care almost immediately after cosmetic surgery. However, do not bath or shower for at least 24 to 48 hrs after surgery.

After this time a shower is possible, but bating should be avoided till at least 10 days after all drains and sutures are removed. Avoid sexual activity of any kind for a minimum of two weeks, longer if the incision has not yet healed. Take and record your temperature regularly following the surgery to monitor for signs of internal infection or system distress. Antibiotics will likely be prescribed, and should be taken as a preventative measure.
