If you have decided to undergo breast augmentation surgery, then you will need to understand the recovery process.
You need to know that this is a painful procedure to have done. The greatest amount of pain will occur during the first 48 hours. This surgical procedure requires stretching your tissue so pain is to be expected. If the implants are placed under the muscle or if you have never had children, the pain can be even greater. However with each passing day the pain will lessen.
Upon first waking from the surgery you can expect to feel tired, stiff and sore. Your plastic surgeon will prescribe medication to help ease the pain and discomfort. You will have bandages wrapped around your breasts along with a tighter bandage for support. Sometimes to get rid of excess fluid there may be drainage tubes coming out of the incision that will be left in for a few days.
For several weeks the scars from your surgery will be pink. The scarring will begin to fade after several months. During the first three to five days of recovery it is important to keep your arm extensions to a minimum. You should not raise your elbows any higher than your armpit. If you can avoid stretching and separating the tissue around your breast implants they will heal faster.
The best way to speed your recovery is to follow the doctor’s orders and rest. Drink plenty of fluids and take all of the prescribed medication. Within a few days of having the surgery you should be able to resume some activities that are calm and quiet. Any physical exertion will need to be avoided for another several weeks. Of course recovery times will vary from patient to patient but usually within a month or two all normal activities can be resumed.
